Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area is a vast, wild landscape with over 120,000 acres, offering diverse ecosystems, wildlife, and more than 10,000 years of human history. Its North District is semi-arid and receives 18 to 20 inches of rain annually, while its South District is high-desert and receives 6 to 10 inches annually. Summer temperatures usually reach highs in the 80s and 90s with lows in the 50s and 60s, and can peak above 100 degrees. Winter temperatures range through the 20s and 30s, with average lows in the 10s and 20s, and can fall below 0 with extreme wind chill.
