The Leonard Methodist congregation was organized in 1883, three years after the town was founded in 1880. This brick structure was built as its second sanctuary and was completed in 1906 during the pastorates of the Rev. E.G. Roberts and the Rev. S.P. Ulrich. In 1909, the building was dedicated free of debt at a special service that included a sermon by Bishop W.B. Murray. Its styling features Gothic Revival detailing.
