Stanton Littlejohn, a musician, music preservationist, and amateur sound engineer, was a gifted multi-instrumentalist whose lasting legacy was local music preservation. From 1947 to 1957, he made acetate recordings from his Eastview, Tennessee, home that preserved the rich sonic legacy of Southwest Tennessee at a pivotal point in American music history, and he was the first to record many area masters, including a young Carl Perkins on the verge of stardom. His work was recognized by the Tennessee Arts Commission, the Center for Popular Music, and the American Folklife Center, Library of Congress. Brian Tull, a music heritage advocate, painter, and muralist originally from Selmer, Tennessee, created downtown Selmer's Rockabilly Highway Murals 1 and 2, which are widely regarded among the highest quality public art installations in the country and have been featured in numerous print and online publications and used by the Tennessee Department of Tourism Development for promotion; through his depiction of local music tradition, he raised national and international awareness of McNairy County's cultural heritage. Dewey Phillips, from Adamsville, Tennessee, was a legendary broadcaster and one of the most influential broadcasters of the twentieth century. His groundbreaking and controversial "Red, Hot and Blue" program on WHBQ Memphis helped integrate the southern airwaves by playing rhythm and blues, gospel, country, jazz, and pop to racially diverse audiences across the Mid-South, and he introduced the world to Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and other early rockabilly artists. Sandy Carroll, of Stantonville, Tennessee, was a blues artist, singer, songwriter, and pianist honored in 2010 with a "Brass Note on Beale" for reviving interest in one of America's most storied music traditions; she performed, toured, recorded with, and wrote for some of the biggest names in blues and americana music, and several solo albums reflect her talents and lasting appeal.
