Three-quarters of a mile northeast, Montgomery Hill was the site of the 55 successful flights of John Joseph Montgomery’s “aeroplane,” which demonstrated aerodynamic developments still indispensable to modern aircraft. There the basic principles of aerodynamics discovered by Montgomery were combined with his engineering skill and technology to produce a heavier-than-air flying machine with complete control, including the cambered wing, rear stabilizer, flexible wingtips, and wing-warping aileron.
