Constructed about 1880, this building was home to dressmaker Sophia Wirth at the beginning of the 20th century. Bernard Wirth operated his blacksmith shop in a building on the adjacent, now-vacant lot. Later, that site, 1913 Cherokee, became home to the Joseph Ziegler Sheet Metal business, where Ziegler stood a company mascot in front of the shop, a tin man he had fashioned after the Tin Man character in The Wizard of Oz, to attract the attention of passers-by.
