Beech Fork State Park in Cabell and Wayne counties occupies the tailwater shores of Beech Fork Lake, a flood-control reservoir built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Beech Fork of Twelvepole Creek. Developed in the mid-1970s, it became a popular recreation destination for Barboursville, Huntington, and the surrounding region. The park offers lake access, campgrounds with 275 campsites, six cabins, a swimming pool, trails, fishing, picnic areas, sports facilities, seasonal paddle boat and canoe rentals, and a rifle and pistol range. Boat rentals are also available at Beech Fork Lake Marina, while federal reservoir rules restrict motors on the lake to 10 horsepower or less.
