By 1832 neighbors were using this site for family burials. On October 31, 1851, Francis and Rachel Dobbins, in consideration of $18, deeded 7/8 acre to Hiram Henry of Bethany Presbyterian, Conrad McClain of Hurricane Baptist, and Oliver Harbert of Rocklane Christian, the first trustees of Glade Dobbins Cemetery, for “a graveyard for the public.” The cemetery served the surrounding communities.
