The Seehund Type XXVII B was a two-man submarine built for shallow-water and coastal defense at the end of World War II. Its normal displacement was 14.94 tons, with a maximum speed of 5.6 knots submerged and 7.7 knots on the surface. Its range was 300 miles at 7 knots on the surface and 63 miles at 3 knots while submerged. It was armed with two externally loaded 21-inch torpedoes, launched from rails on each side of the boat, and powered by a 60-horsepower diesel engine on the surface and a 12-horsepower electric motor underwater. The boat measured 39 feet long and 5 feet 6 inches wide. Units were commissioned as U-2251 to U-2295, U-5034 to U-5037, and U-5251 to U-5269. Although 1,284 boats were ordered, 67 were built in 1944-1945.
