Blue Ridge Mountain is an isolated peak in Wyoming County in northeastern Pennsylvania’s sparsely settled Endless Mountains. A few miles west of Meshoppen, it overlooks a bend in the Main Branch Susquehanna River and the northern end of the Wyoming Valley region. Its importance lies in how the narrow space between mountain and river concentrated transportation routes. U.S. Route 6 runs at its base, along with railroad tracks first built by the Lehigh Valley Railroad. Those rails once carried the Black Diamond Express, a daily luxury train between New York City and Buffalo, connecting this quiet river bend to a broader network of travel and commerce.
