A flood in 1902 destroyed a wooden bridge, and in 1903 the Camelback Parker Truss Bridge was built by Groton Bridge Works at a cost of $6,360.00. In 1952, its wooden floor was replaced with iron grating. In 1990, "Grandparents of the Future" chained themselves to the bridge in protest to the NY State Nuclear Siting Commission. Allegany County closed the bridge in 1993, and in 1995 a grass roots committee formed to save it. In 1998, the bridge was accepted to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Extensive renovations were done in 2006 to reopen it, and in 2007 the Caneadea Bridge reopened and was rededicated.
