Meyersdale was originally founded through three land warrants granted to John Olinger in 1784, Andrew Borntrager in 1785, and John Burger in 1785. In 1803 it was known as Meyers Mills, or “Moyer’s Stadt.” The first town lots were laid out in 1844, it was chartered as Dale City Borough in 1870, and its charter was amended to Meyersdale in 1874.
