First Presbyterian Church Bell

Founded in 1836, the First Presbyterian Church was part of the Columbus Grove community for 175 years. Originally called Truro Church, it stood on land donated by the William and Adam Turner families where Truro Cemetery is now located. Its bell, installed in the church’s first building in town in 1851, was the first church bell in the community. After President Lincoln was assassinated in 1865, the bell was tolled 100 times, damaging it and leaving it in need of repair. When a new church building was constructed in 1901, the bell was repaired and placed in the bell tower, where it continued to ring until 2016.
