King and Queen County / Gloucester County
History

King and Queen County covers 320 square miles and was formed in 1691 from New Kent, taking its name from King William III and Queen Mary; the family of George Rogers Clark long lived there. Gloucester County covers 223 square miles and was formed in 1651 from York, taking its name from Gloucester County, England; Bacon the rebel died there in 1676, and Gloucester Point was Cornwallis's outpost at Yorktown in 1781.
