Gene Letourneau (Frye Mountain) Wildlife Management Area is a 5,241-acre protected tract in Waldo County, Maine, managed as a forest and wildlife landscape shaped by both former farms and later conservation. Much of the land was acquired by the federal government in the late 1930s under the Bankhead Jones Farm Tenant Act after it had been home to farming families. Instead of becoming a recreation area, it developed into a game management district whose mix of second-growth forest, old fields, orchards, and oaks created strong deer habitat and made it popular with hunters. Its history also includes a disputed 1985 renaming, a former fire tower, and temporary National Guard range use.
