Signal Peak, in the San Joaquin Hills of Orange County, California, rises 1,168 feet and is the highest point in that range. Prominent above the coastal landscape, it overlooks the University of California, Irvine to the north and Crystal Cove State Park to the south and southeast. Its height and position make the summit visible from much of northern Orange County and even far southern Los Angeles County, and as the first and highest peak seen when traveling south on State Route 73, it has a striking presence beyond its modest elevation. It is also important as a major two-way radio site and as a visual reporting checkpoint for private aircraft approaching John Wayne Airport from the south.
