Military
The World War I Guardian Angel Monument was erected by the people of Marathon County and Burns Post No. 388 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. in grateful appreciation of the noble sacrifices of those from this county who gave their lives in the World War of 1917–1918, and it records the names of the county’s dead with the closing words, “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
