Very few postcard views exist of the Isabella County courthouse, and one of the best shows it in the mid nineteen thirties. After about six years of discussion, a major addition to the courthouse took place in 1926. The addition was paid for after voters passed a special election to raise $18,000 by a vote of 1,691 in favor to 1,161 against. A considerable amount of space was added at each corner of the structure. The original courthouse grounds consisted of 3.5 acres, with the building centered on the site. The courthouse was 80 feet tall to the top of the cupola, with outside dimensions of 71 by 57 feet. Most of the building had 12-foot ceilings except the courtroom, which was 24 feet from floor to ceiling. Today only the cupola remains of the courthouse. The courthouse was demolished in 1971 after completion of the new county building immediately in front of the pictured structure. This view was taken from curbside on North Main Street facing east northeast, and a picture from the same position today would show the main entrance on the south side of the County Building just a few feet away.
