City Hall was built in 1880-81 at a cost of $2500.00, including the price of the land. Inside were a meeting hall for the town's Board of Trustees, office space for the town recorder, two jail cells, and accommodations for fire fighting equipment. The existing fire bell tower was added some time before 1920. Since its completion in 1881, the building has been in continuous use as a city meeting hall. A total restoration sponsored by the Jacksonville Booster Club began in 1980 and was completed in 1981.
