From 1914 to 1919, people of South River, N.J., enrolled themselves in the service of their country in a spirit of self-sacrifice during World War I. Those who died in service were Wislently Boncarewicz, Conrad Schmitt, Frank Frandsen, William A. Schmitzer, David Gecelik, Joseph A. Schpsco, Steve Levandosky, Michael Shuplek, Thomas Lyons, Henry Wenzel, and John Yaramchuck.
