High Mountain Park Preserve in Wayne, New Jersey, protects part of the Preakness Range of the Watchung Mountains across 1,153 acres of woodlands and wetlands. Established in 1993 and managed by The Nature Conservancy, it is one of northern New Jersey’s largest conserved tracts. The preserve is important for its rich ecology, including nine ecological communities, 380 plant species, and several rare or imperiled plants such as Torrey's mountain mint, basil-leaved mountain mint, narrow-leaved vervain, and hazel dodder. Its traprock basalt glade and rock shelters add geological significance, while the shelters and Revolutionary War signaling sites reflect a long human history.
