Colonels Bratton and Neel attacked the British Legion cavalry and the New York Volunteer infantry as militia under Colonel Lacey and Captain McClure advanced up the line from the cast and joined the battle. Lieutenant William Adamson of the New York Volunteers was mortally wounded, and the British infantry quickly surrendered. Captain Huck led his cavalry in several unsuccessful charges against the Patriot militia, who used Williamson's split-rail fence and nearby peach trees as cover.
