Laurel Caverns, a large show cave in Farmington on Chestnut Ridge near Uniontown, is Pennsylvania’s largest cave by volume and area and became the center of the state’s first underground-focused state park. Long known as Dulany’s Cave, it was explored in detail in 1816 and remained a locally known wild cave into the early twentieth century before developing into a tourist destination. Opened formally to the public in 1964, it later gained safety upgrades, lighting, and conservation-minded management. Known for its pseudokarst and speleological features, steady 52-degree temperature, branchwork passages, and gravity-hill illusion, it entered state ownership in 2026.
