Madison Memorial Park honors Lake County, South Dakota veterans across three wars. Its Civil War memorial, marked 1861–1865 and G.A.R., remembers Civil War veterans who became pioneers of Lake County and records a long roll of their names. Its World War I memorial, a Roll of Honor, honors and remembers members of Madison Lodge No. 20, I.O.O.F., who offered their lives in defense of humanity in the Great World War of 1914-1918, including Elmer Davis, who died in his country's service, Belle Frislie, a Red Cross nurse, and many others named there. Its Spanish-American War memorial is dedicated to the veterans of 1898 and 1902 by James A. Lizer Camp No. 7 and Auxiliary No. 6, United Spanish War Veterans, Madison, S. Dak., in August, 1954, and invokes service in Cuba, the Philippine Islands, Porto Rico, and the U.S.A. with President McKinley's tribute to their bravery and determination.
