Built in 1908 in Mason City, Iowa, this Frank Lloyd Wright house was designed for Dr. George C. Stockman and his wife Eleanor, adapting Wright’s 1907 A Fireproof House for $5000 into a smaller Prairie Style home for a middle-income family. The design was modified from the published plan, and despite later ownership changes after 1924, the house was altered little. After narrowly escaping demolition in 1987, it was moved to a new site, carefully restored, and opened to the public in 1992. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it remains an important part of Mason City’s architectural heritage.
