West Grove was an early Quaker settlement established in 1836 and a center of Underground Railroad activity. A meeting house was erected here in 1840 on land donated by Enos and Margaret Lewis, and it was used by Congregational Friends, by a Spiritualist society, and as a school and community hall until it was razed in 1927.
