On June 8, 1967, the crew of the USS Liberty, AGTR 5, received recognition for courageous and faithful service in military action. Decorations awarded included the Congressional Medal of Honor, two Navy Crosses, thirty-eight Silver-Bronze Stars, and two hundred eight Purple Hearts. The action resulted in thirty-four killed in action and one hundred seventy-four wounded in action, and it brought the most decorations awarded for a single ship in action in U.S. history.
