In 1942, the Navy established the WAVES, the Marine Corps established the Women's Reserve, the Coast Guard established the SPARS, and the Army established the WAC; in 1943, the Air Force established the WASPS; and the Women's Armed Forces Integration Act of 1948 gave women full recognition as veterans.
