During 1917-1918, thousands of men became soldiers here under the training of Major General Edwin F. Glenn of the 83rd Division and in other units. Under the guidance of A. Bentley and Sons of Toledo, Ohio, thousands of men also transformed 2200 acres of farmland in two months into a facility of 2000 buildings known as Camp Sherman. In earlier days, thousands of men served in nearby army mobilizations beginning with the War of 1812. To the east stands Mt. Logan, which inspired the design of the Ohio State Seal in 1803.
