Elijah Pierce, a native of Baldwyn, was a barber, Baptist minister, and artist. In 1982, he received a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts for his woodcarvings. His work has been exhibited in the National Museum of American Art and the American Folk Art Museum in New York.
