Lake Placid’s Winter Olympic Museum preserves and interprets the town’s distinctive Olympic legacy as host of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. Opened by New York State in 1994 inside the Olympic Center, it is one of the few Olympic museums in the United States and reflects how deeply winter sport shapes the town’s identity. Its collection includes notable artifacts from both Games, including the Fram III bobsled, Jack Shea’s skates, and memorabilia from the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” team. Beyond its exhibits, it has supported Olympic and cultural events, contributed materials to the film Miracle, and in 2005 received the Olympic Cup for service to sport and the Olympic movement.
