McKenzie Mountain is a prominent 3,861-foot summit in New York's Adirondack Park, in western Essex County near St. Armand and North Elba. Part of the protected Forest Preserve, it stands between the Saranac Lake and Lake Placid area and was once known as Saddleback for its shape. Two trails reach the summit, including one beginning at the Jackrabbit Ski Trail and another dating to 1896 from the Lake Shore Path. The mountain is especially valued for its sweeping views, with panoramas toward Whiteface Mountain, Lake Placid, Gothics, Mount Marcy, the Great Range, the Seward Mountains, Saranac Lake, the Saranac Lakes, Moose Pond, and other surrounding peaks.
