Battle Bigger's Ferry 1780

In 1780, the Battle of Bigger's Ferry took place three miles east on the Catawba River between the forces of Lord Rawdon and Sumter, with Whig forces commanded by Colonels Hill and Lacey. One mile east stood New Aquisition School, which President Andrew Jackson attended in 1779, and the widow Howe's cottage where he boarded.
