Arrowhead Mountain
Lore
Arrowhead Mountain is a 978-foot peak in the Mayacamas of northern California on the Sonoma-Napa county line. Part of the California Coast Ranges, it has modest prominence and isolation, but holds local interest for its position near the boundary of the Moon Mountain District Sonoma County wine region and for its appearance on the USGS Sonoma topographic map. Local tradition links the mountain to an arrowhead-shaped mark associated with Native American belief. In that story, the Great Spirit placed the symbol to guide people to their destined homeland and to indicate sacred ground near hot springs below that were valued for healing, while later forest fires are said to have helped erode the formation.
