Jacob Green Jackson State Forest honors Jacob Green Jackson (1817-1901), founder of the Caspar Lumber Company. His motto, "Walk Humbly - Deal Justly," was exemplified by his operation and by that of his successor and grandson, Casimir Jackson Wood. Trees were first harvested from these lands in 1861. In 1947, the State of California purchased this property to promote and demonstrate continuous forest production.
