Fort Washington State Park is a 493-acre Pennsylvania state park in Springfield and Whitemarsh, north of Philadelphia, known for flowering dogwoods, quiet recreation, and its Revolutionary War associations. After George Washington’s defeat at Germantown, about 11,000 troops camped here from November 11 to December 11, 1777, before moving to Valley Forge, and the nearby Battle of White Marsh took place during that campaign. Fort Hill marks a temporary fort, while Militia Hill recalls positions held by Pennsylvania militia under Generals Armstrong, Cadwalader, and Irvine. Established as a public park in the early 1920s, it now also hosts the seasonal Hawk Watch and prohibits hunting.
