Utica Bridge was a 262-foot, two-span Pratt through truss bridge built in 1866 by the Smith Bridge Company of Toledo, Ohio, at a time when Utica Borough was growing rapidly after the discovery of nearby oil and gas resources. It was a good example of late nineteenth-century bridge technology, with pinned truss connections and stone abutments. The bridge was determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places in 1998, and after it was replaced in 2001, a plaque that had been located on its end portal was incorporated into the design of the present bridge.
