Trevorton Bridge was a long wooden truss span over Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna River linking Herndon and Port Trevorton. Built in 1854 as a railroad bridge, it extended 3,460 feet and included a 1,400-foot trestle across White Island. Constructed by the Susquehanna & Union Bridge Co. and later tied to the Trevorton and Susquehanna Railroad, it was adapted in September 1855 to carry both road traffic and trains. The bridge became especially known for cattle crossings, but that heavy use further stressed wood already weakened by acid in the pine bark used in construction. Fears of collapse led to its dismantling in 1870.
