Long Island is a narrow landform in Lake Superior off northern Wisconsin, usually counted among the Apostle Islands and included within Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Unlike the other islands, it is geologically an extension of the sandy spit projecting from Chequamegon Point rather than a separate rocky island. That origin gives it a long, slender shape, stretching about 6.4 kilometers, or 4 miles, while ranging from just 75 to 380 meters wide. Located in the Town of Sanborn in Ashland County, it stands out both as a distinct feature on the lake and as part of the shoreline processes that formed it. Its name is also shared by five other Wisconsin islands.
