Battle at Lebanon
Military
1
Morgan's 2,400 raiders, on the way to Ohio, were met here on July 5, 1863, by Col. C.S. Hanson's 380 Union men. During the battle, Hanson was barricaded in the railroad depot. The raiders fired buildings, but rain prevented wide destruction. After a seven-hour battle, the Union troops, almost encircled, gave up. They were forced at double-quick to Springfield, then paroled. The raiders crossed the Ohio River at Brandenburg.
