From the early 1980s, Morrisound Recording earned a worldwide reputation for producing high-quality recordings in many genres of music. In the 1980s and 1990s, it also became known as the birthplace of the extreme metal genre Death Metal. Extreme metal artists came from around the world to record there, drawn by the power and clarity heard on albums recorded by producer-engineers Jim Morris, Tom Morris, and Scott Burns. Bands traveled from Germany, Spain, France, England, Switzerland, South Korea, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and elsewhere. The roster of extreme metal artists who recorded there was extensive, and as of 2022, 25 of the top 30 best-selling death metal albums of all time were recorded at Morrisound, including albums by Death, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Obituary, and Sepultura.
