The Milford Memorial Stone Bridge bears memorial inscriptions honoring Robert Treat, who served for thirty years as governour and deputy governor of the Colony of Connecticut and died in 1710; Ansantawae, identified by his mark and the date 1639; Capt. Thomas Tibbals, who died in 1703 and was remembered for his helpfulness at first coming to Milford in showing the first comers the place; and Peter Prudden, first pastor in Milford, who died in 1656, accompanied by the words, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness prepare ye the way of the Lord make his path straight."
