Organized Baptist work in the Oklahoma Panhandle began on Aug. 5, 1894, when Pleasant View Baptist Church was founded with 8 charter members 1½ mi. north and 1½ mi. east of here. Meetings were held in the Pleasant View school house until after the Rock Island Railroad was built through Tyrone in 1901, shifting the community there, and in 1902 the church moved to its present site in a white frame house and was renamed Tyrone Baptist Church. In 1903 it affiliated with Southern Baptist of Oklahoma Territory. The church used its first building until a brick structure replaced it on the same site in 1953. Tyrone hosted six Panhandle churches on Sept. 16, 1904, to organize the Beaver County Association, parent body of the present Panhandle Association, which was formed at Goodwell on Aug. 30, 1922.
