Beaver Dunes Park in the Oklahoma Panhandle spans 520 acres near Beaver and is known for 300 acres of sand dunes in one of the state’s driest regions, where low rainfall allows loose sand to remain and form dunes. The park centers on off-road vehicle riding but also includes camping, fishing, picnic, and day-use facilities around Beaver Lake, Hackberry Bend Campground, Pioneer Campground, and the Big Sandy area. Local lore links the dunes to stories of Spanish exploration, mysterious disappearances, and UFO traditions. In 2011, local opposition helped prevent closure, and ownership passed from Oklahoma to the City of Beaver to preserve the site.
