The Chicago Northwestern Depot was built in 1906, the same year the railroad reached Midland. In the homestead era it served the community as many hundreds of homesteaders, businessmen, hoboes, and other passengers passed through, while for 50 years mail moved in and out of Midland and hundreds of tons of freight were dispatched by perhaps a score of depot agents. In 1974 the Midland Pioneer Museum Association purchased the building and moved it about 600 feet southeast from its site along the railroad tracks. Its exterior has not been altered and remains as it was in 1906, with the bricks in the walk being the same bricks laid on the railroad platform. The building and its contents are dedicated to preserving the lifestyles, tools of trade, joys, and hardships of the pioneers.
