Built in the 1860s, this cottage was bought on Jan. 8, 1873, by James Stephen Hogg (1851-1906), who married Sarah Ann Stinson of Wood County in 1874. When the couple honeymooned here, Hogg was editor-publisher of the Quitman News and justice of the peace, at the start of the career that led to his service as governor of Texas from 1891 to 1895. Local clubs bought the cottage and moved it here in 1946, and it was restored in 1952 by Gov. and Mrs. Hogg's only daughter, Miss Ima.
