Coyote Mountains Wilderness is a 5,080-acre protected area in southern Arizona, near the center of Pima County about 40 miles southwest of Tucson. It covers much of the central and northeastern Coyote Mountains, including the range’s largest and tallest northeastern section at the northwest edge of the Altar Valley. The land drops toward the Aguirre and Altar valleys, while the nearby Quinlin Mountains and Coyote Mountains together help mark the northern end of the broader Baboquivari massif. Typical of the Sonoran borderlands, the landscape includes paloverde, saguaro, and some oak woodland, and is valued for its undeveloped desert mountain terrain.
