Knights Ferry was a picturesque mining center and trading post founded in 1849 and once called Dentville. It served as an early ferry to the southern mines, was the county seat from 1862 to 1872, and featured a rare wooden covered bridge reputedly designed by U.S. Grant, brother-in-law of the Dent brothers, in 1854, as well as an old flour mill dating to 1854.
