Old Forester Distilling Co. continues a legacy that began in 1870, when pharmaceutical sales representative George Garvin Brown sealed his whiskey exclusively in glass bottles while whiskey was commonly sold by the barrel and often adulterated before reaching consumers. Brown established his business on Main Street when Whiskey Row was home to 89 bourbon distilling companies, and only one of those companies still operates today under the same ownership: Brown-Forman with its founding brand, Old Forester. Over 150 years, Old Forester has never left the market and remains the only brand continuously sold by the same company and the same family before, during, and after Prohibition. Today, Old Forester has returned to the building it once called home, where a 70,000-square-foot distillery presents the brand's history and bourbon-making process. Through Prohibition, world wars, and changing consumer tastes, Old Forester's promise of sealed-in quality, balance, and value as "America's First Bottled Bourbon" has endured.
