Skylight Cave is a lava tube in Oregon’s Deschutes National Forest, about nine miles northwest of Sisters and east of Belknap Crater. It is distinguished by a collapsed roof opening that forms the entrance and by three hornito skylights in its eastern passage, features that point to its volcanic origins. Small cupolas suggest additional hornitos may once have existed, and the entrance itself may have been one before collapsing. A steel ladder provides access through the opening. Inside, the eastern passage remains largely intact, while the longer western passage is choked with sand, clay, and breakdown. The cave also serves as a hibernation site for Townsend’s big-eared bats.
