The Pocumtuck Ridge Trail is a 20-mile footpath along the Pocumtuck Range in western Massachusetts, running through Deerfield and Greenfield from Sugarloaf Mountain to Poet’s Seat. Following the ridgeline, it is known for dramatic cliffside outlooks with wide views over the Deerfield and Connecticut River valleys. Much of the route crosses protected land, with about 70 percent on conservation property, helping preserve the landscape and the experience of traveling the ridge. As of May 2010, one section about a mile north of the power line crossing in Deerfield was blocked by a private landowner with orange snow fencing and numerous no-trespassing signs.
